Camp Erin Connecticut

A weekend camp for children who have lost a loved one...

“I am so grateful to you, and all those who worked so hard to make this happen for our children. It’s a club that you really don't want to join...but you and The Cove have made this "membership" so much better than it could be... You are a gift to us and I am so grateful!” –Parent of a Camp Erin CT Camper

Camp Erin CONNECTICUT - June 2-4, 2017

Camp Erin® Connecticut is a FREE weekend-long, overnight camp for children and teenagers aged 6-17 who are grieving the death of a loved one.  The camp is named after Erin Metcalf, a 17-year-old girl who died in 2000 and was a close friend of Jamie Moyer (former All-Star pitcher for the Seattle Mariners) and the Moyer family. The Moyers founded the Camp Erin network of camps in honor of Erin's memory.

Campers participate for the full weekend at Camp Awosting in Morris, CT.  The camp is facilitated by professional staff and trained volunteers.  Cabin “Big Buddy” volunteers offer additional support and friendship for campers.

Camp Erin® Connecticut is free of charge to all participants.  In 2017, camp will be held June 2-4, 2017.  Children are dropped off on Friday afternoon and picked up again the following Sunday.

More than your typical camp

Camp Erin is a traditional, high-energy camp that emphasizes fun while also providing support and education to kids who are grieving the loss of a loved one.  In addition to typical camp activities (evening campfires, nature walks, arts and crafts, games, sports and more), Camp Erin provides opportunities for healing and companionship not found in other settings.  Campers engage in activities designed specifically for their age.

Information and registration for campers

Camp Erin is free for all participants, but space is limited and registration is required. To register, contact the Camp Coordinator Delores Willaims at 203-634-0500 or by email at delores@covect.org

 Volunteer at Camp Erin® Connecticut

We are seeking volulnteers for Camp Erin 2017.  Mandatory Training and DCF and Criminal Background checks required. If you're interested in volunteering at next year's Camp Erin, please contact Delores Williams,Camp Coordinator at delores@covect.org

Charitable Support Makes It Possible

We need your help.  In 2013 the Moyer Foundation gave The Cove Center for Grieving Children a grant to launch Camp Erin® Newtown (which later became Camp Erin CT) here in our state. The grant funded the camp's start-up costs and provided The Cove with pledged funds to support a portion of the cost for a ten-year period, to ensure the camp's long-term growth.

With the support of the designated grant each year that funds a portion of total expense, and donations from our community and in-kind donations, Camp Erin® Connecticut can be offered at no cost to grieving children throughout the state of Connecticut.

Your help is needed to ensure that we can support the budget for camp in 2017 so we are able to serve all of the children that would like to attend.  Our goal is to serve 100 campers, which will require funding of close to $40,000, and with your help, it will be a reality.  We also hope to develop funds to guarantee that we have secured funding for coming years, as our funding from the foundation decreases.

An example of a corporation helping out is KBE Building Corporation who donated teddy bear t-shirts and performed minor surgery on some teddy bears for Camp Erin  2016 campers. Click here to learn more about their efforts.

Please donate to Camp Erin Connecticut today and help make a difference!
